Air Brake Course
Air Brake Theory Course
Understand the system before you drive it. Operating a commercial vehicle with air brakes takes more than driving skill. You need to know how the braking system works, how to inspect it, and how to spot safety problems early.
Our ICBC-approved Air Brake Theory Course makes complex air brake systems easy to understand through practical, hands-on learning. Whether you're preparing for a commercial driving career or adding an air brake endorsement to your licence, we'll help you prepare with confidence.
Who needs this course?
The career starter. If you plan to pursue a Class 2 or Class 3 commercial licence in British Columbia, this course is your first step.
The licence upgrader. Drivers with a Class 5 or Class 7N licence who want to operate air brake vehicles such as RVs, buses, or trucks must complete this course to get the Code 15 Air Brake Endorsement.
The commercial driver. Students in a Class 1 MELT program receive air brake training as part of the overall course. This 7-hour theory course gives you the foundation for understanding air brake systems safely and correctly.
The path to your air brake endorsement
Step 1: Complete the 7-hour Air Brake Theory Course. Take the mandatory course at an ICBC-approved driving school like Banur Driving School. When you finish, you'll receive the certificate of completion you need for the next step.
Step 2: Pass the ICBC Air Brake Knowledge Test. After the course, most students visit an ICBC Driver Licensing Office to write the test. Many students write it with their Class 2 or Class 3 learner's exam to save time.
Step 3: Complete the practical assessment, if required. Drivers adding the Code 15 endorsement to a Class 5 licence must also complete a practical assessment. This includes an air brake pre-trip inspection and a brake adjustment test.
