Our Behind the Wheel and On Your Own (BTW) e-learning course is an interactive, virtual training program designed to prepare you for a lifetime of independent driving. Whether you are a Learner (7L), a Novice (7N), or a full Class 5 driver, this course bridges the gap between learning to drive and knowing the road.
What you'll master
This isn't just a slideshow of rules. It's a deep dive into the real-world skills that keep you safe.
- Risk perception: Train your brain to see hazards before they become accidents.
- The first car guide: The pros and cons of new and used vehicles, including insurance costs and maintenance expectations.
- Highway and freeway driving: Build the confidence to merge and navigate high-speed traffic.
- Real-world navigation: Read the road, understand the difference between avenues and streets, and navigate without relying entirely on GPS.
- Emergency simulations: Experience high-stress scenarios such as hydroplaning or a tire blowout in a safe, controlled environment.
Beyond the steering wheel: basic maintenance
A safe driver knows their vehicle. The course includes step-by-step tutorials on:
- Fluid checks: How to check and top up oil, coolant, and washer fluid, and why winter washer fluid matters.
- Tire health: How to check tire pressure and inflate tires to the correct levels for safety and fuel economy.
- Pre-trip inspections: What to check each morning to make sure your car is road-legal and safe to drive.
Why e-learning?
The BTW course lets you review advanced driving scenarios that are too dangerous to practise on real roads. By completing the modules at your own pace, you build the critical thinking skills needed to make good decisions when you're finally on your own.
